Cardinal "The Guardian"

During the Gala Opening of "For the Birds" I was asked if I had any cardinal pieces. That afternoon I photographed about 300 pics coming up with a handful of usable references. I had several cardinals in my backyard and near my studio windows while I was inside out of the rain portraying "The Guardian" who resides here. The birds delight me. I posted the earlier version on facebook and twitter. Here is a letter from Dorinda:

I was fortunate enough to meet Robin through a mutual friend, Lindy Asimus,
through a social networking site. Robin's talent is incredible. While I fell in
love with the photos of her work, when I received my first piece (Miami Waterside)
it took my breath away. Her attention to detail shines through every color she
applies to her canvas. We have purchased a second piece (The Guardian) from
Robin and we know there will be many more to come. If you are looking for art
work to make your home shine, I strongly recommend Robin Pedrero. Her work is
stunning.

Return to the studio

Prior to leaving for Connecticut I did something I'd not done before to enable my family to continue to ship my art in my absence. I laid out a table with prints, ACEO's, cards, and postcards. I lined envelopes with board for all of my ACEO's. On one wall I hung all of my new acrylic square pieces listed in my Etsy and 1000 market shops. I created sturdy mat board portfolios with spacers for the original pastels, labeled them and placed postcards on the front, creating a lovely sturdy presentation for shipping. I prepared bubble wrap, and shipping boxes for my products. I am pleased that the shipping prep will help me to send my work in a snap! I sold several pieces while away, including a very exciting sale of 2 pieces purchased for Sony Pictures film the "Roommate". This is a note from the purchaser

Our movie is a Screen Gems production being shot at Sony Pictures Studios. It's
starring Leighton Meester from Gossip Girl, Minka Kelly from Friday
Night Lights, and Cam Gigandet from Twilight. It is about two girls who
move in together and one (Leighton's character) becomes obsessed with the other
(Minka's character).
It's a fun little thriller. :) We would be using your art in the character
Irene's apartment, which is where the final dramatic fight occurs, so it's a
good place to be.

The Vortex Detour

Just in case you were wondering ...this great shot from behind my daughter's ear lol is in the bathroom at the Waldorf Astoria. One of several hotels we occupied after our vehicle broke down on the way home to Florida from Connecticut.

Since it would take 4 days to repair, we rented a car and took in the Big Apple; Times Square, Kooza (cirque du soleil), (INCREDIBLE) The Museum of Natural History...(did you know there are now chairs in Times Square?)

We saw a movie being filmed and jumped out of the car to walk on the street set of "Morning Glory" where we saw Harrison Ford, and Rachel McAdams. Since this was an impromptu adventure I only had my cell phone and my Harrison Ford pic is blurry but we were a few feet away from the stars.
We enjoyed eats at Maxie's and trying places like Victor's Cafe which I enjoyed and look forward to going back to on a future visit. Shopping and eating in the sunday street fair is something we usually try to take advantage of, especially since there weren't any good deals at Macy's this trip, and the kids hadn't experienced it yet, and they found great bargains. Then to Chinatown, topped with our last lunch stop in Little Italy(above).
Ironicly my husband was thinking of making a stop somewhere on the way down as a tribute to my Dad who liked to travel, as a treat for my birthday, and to celebrate Father's Day. He had no idea we would end up in NYC on such a grand affair. We did some of the things my father enjoyed and had treated me to as a child, so I was able to pass that on and share memories.

The Teacher

click here to see Etsy listing

A mixed media piece in my ACEO series that is a perfect keepsake to honor a teacher. The verse here talks about "The Teacher..he imparted knowledge to the...pondered and searched out....just the right words..and upright and true...other symbols like the crossword, a piece of the sky, more words on hope
I am honored to have had many fine teachers in my life, including my Dad.

Rays of Light

"Rays of Light" Black and white photograph by Robin Maria Pedrero May 2009
Light and the subjects it touches are the most beautiful aspects of nature, of life.
Images like this make an imprint in my mind. Then through an emotion filled filter,
as an artist, I am impelled through such inspirations to bring forth my work. My recent
layering of colors and forms in acrylics reflects my experience in the woods.
I am pleased at how this captured image expresses a distinctive feeling and differs from
those works of art where I place pigment to portray my perceptions.

My Beloved Father Robert A. Neilson

March 25, 1937 – June 12, 2009

Robert A. Neilson of Norwich, Connecticut and Ocala, Florida was surrounded by his loving family the day he went to be with the Lord. He was born in New York, New York to Robert and Gloria Neilson on March 25, 1937. He was raised in Salt Point New York the oldest of three children. Always highly inquisitive his interests included all forms of mechanics, flying airplanes, scuba diving, and racing. He was adept at all intricacies of machinery and began at a young age when he drove farm tractors at age 5. At age 7 as he was attacked by a mountain lion. He beat it off with a rock to brag years later about the puncture wounds on his arm. Growing up on a 600 acre farm/and summer resort which his grandmother Clarise Neilson opened, he became very adept at raising all types of farm animals, and milk cattle. Known as “The Neilson Farm” in the Catskills, it was a working farm for rest and relaxation to New York City residents. As a Union Steward he championed for the rights of others, to insure for the safety of the crews. He served on the board of the IAM and was a representative at the National level. After he retired he became a lay minister helping those in need in the community. Although his many interests included technology, he most of all adored his grandchildren and was affectionately known as Pa, who saw him as invincible and totally available to them. He loved to travel with his family in the US and abroad. He had a great sense of humor, staying in contact with friends and relatives many of whom called him "Tex". He will be greatly missed by his loving family, friends, neighbors and former colleagues. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St Patrick’s Cathedral in Norwich, CT June 19, 2009 at 10 AM.

Transisitons

This photo is from my last visit to the Pond. The irises had already bloomed once I returned back here to Connecticut to be with my father in his final days. It is hard to know exactly what to do to be of comfort and a help to my mother. So many memories fill our minds as we sit with my father and wish he did not have to go through this slow debilitating loss of life. It is overcast and quiet. Even my father's parrot is quiet and curled up under a wing on the bottom of her cage.
