Influences and Inspirations

The figure in my acrylic "Her Path" is inspired by Keith Theriot's "Graces" series. I studied a sculpture for the image, while my mind recalled his work. At one of his shows at the Gallery at Avalon Island in Orlando a few months ago, he came up to me and shared that he was inspired by my palette of red and blue and he planned to do some works of art using that inspiration.

"Bloody Bleu and Chiquita were initially where I had the "Robin Pedrero"inspiration, but used it again when I did the Orphean Graces (blue). Thank you for that!" Keith Theriot

The influences and inspirations that overflow from one artist to another is historical. Presently I am reading "Everybody Who Was Anybody A Biography of Gertrude Stein" by Janet Hobhouse where repeatedly in the lives of the artists and authors, are philosophies, observations, processes, and creations spurred on or implemented by one another. This story holds true from the preveious biography of "deKooning" as well. (Those two reads are from Alyson Stanfield's Twitter Book Club) Years ago I read a book about Picasso where he described one aspect of being an artist which has always stayed with me, as he discussed that all artists are but thieves. I prefer a slightly more diplomatic choice of words like inspired and influenced rather than thief, though the later does have the visual of an enticing cunning fox who steals away with a treasure. I cherish the overflow of creative muses from music, theater, visual art, and the natural muse of creation. Thank you Keith, it has been a pleasure sharing mutual muses.

Custom Note Cards

Above are four different colored borders around my "Partridge in a Pear Tree" image. I invite you to share your preferences as I design these holiday cards. I am not sure which color to select! I would also be delighted to read your suggestions on the words that might be best on the front and inside. Another decision is that I can make them 5.47 x 4.21 or larger greeting cards 7.17 x 4.61.
One of the services I offer are custom note cards. I can use my images and create them with or without words inside and on the front. I place artwork credits on the card with the title and my name on the inside. I would be glad to design a card with any of my images for you.
My image "Chandelier" was requested in note cards
and will soon be available for all to purchase.

"Mediterranean Olive Branches" was requested and is being printed,
these too will be listed as an item for sale.

Custom wording or colors require prepayment and is non refundable.

Neu America Art Magazine

Reflections, the third exhibition organized by Neu America Art Magazine, features the work of one of one the most important exponents of the Art Deco: Noel. After many successful exhibitions all over the U.S and Europe, a Solo Exhibit at the Queen Mary 2 from New York to London, several exhibits on Princess Connoisseur Luxury Liners, and most recently, a One Man show at the renowned South Beach's Shore Club Hotel, and a Solo exhibit at the Crown Princess to Portugal and Barcelona, Neu America Art Magazine proudly brings to Orlando the international renowned artist: Noel. Noel is a Cuban-American artist who has been involved in the art scene for more than two decades. His career in the arts began as a ballet dancer in Cuba and then in the United States with the Ballet Concerto, Dance Miami, Boston Ballet and New England Dinosaur Dance until his retirement in 1986. It was that same year that Noel decided to pursue his long time dream of painting professionally, in which he has gained the recognition around the world. He just returned from Europe where he participated in the prestigious art exhibition held at the Carousel of the Louvre Museum, and where he was represented by the famed Crisolart Gallery. Now, on September 24 and 25, the City Beautiful will have the opportunity to enjoy the exquisite quality and finesse of Noel's latest collection. Do not miss "Reflection" an unforgettable visual experience that will remain in our memories as an unparalleled fusion of color, shade and the unique elegance of his creations.

For all of you "Tea Girl" fans, the well know art collector and owner of Gallery 17 -92 Winter Park FL , Tommy Cannalogna , acquired "Tea Girl" at the "Reflections" exhibit. He shared she will join the company several Geishas which he favors, in his art collection. I plan to create note cards of "Tea Girl" and I am taking preorders. Starla's Eggs

A friend shared her intimate story of seeking to have children with the good news of a photo of her eggs which looked nothing like the eggs in the nest above but more like the flower above the eggs. Yet her photo of her flower like eggs seeped into my dreams for days, and all night long I dreamt of this nest, so it came into being via paint. I am so pleased that she was so touched by the piece she has selected it for her babies room.
BTW, I own a pastel of a nest with eggs created by Jan Williams in my art collection.

Olive Branches

"Olive Branches" was still getting layers of paint at midnight last night. I want to share a very wet begining stage in the bottom picture to give you some insight into the layering. I wanted the background on the bottom to conjur olive oil and balsamic vinegar mixed with herbs and spices. The top marks memories of Italy from travels with branches in the blue sky.

My first ATC TRADE

Here are a few women from the Women's Assemblage/Bezalel group who met at my place to watch a portion of a DVD by Israeli artist, Ephraim Edward Kalish who created a film titled "Bezalel-Son of Light". I prepared lunch, we discussed the film, food, travel, stories, art, business...great convos and good company ....AND we made ATCs and ACEOs. I am fairly new to the ACEO market, creating a small series of originals and prints which you can see in my Etsy Shop. I also have my MAKE A DIFFERENCE series of ACEOs which are being shared across America and Canada. This pic below is my first acquisition trade ATC by Pamela Casey "Father Lorenzo" . Trading our mini art pieces was so much fun!

2.5” x 3.5” (10 cm x 15 cm) original mixed media ACEO painting and drawing. ACEO stands for Art Cards, Editions, and Originals and represent any 2.5” x 3.5” work of art. They are sometime also known as ATCs (Artist Trading Cards) and are a fun and affordable way of collecting unique works of art. Some collectors keep them in albums and others frame them for their home or office.

Duke Gardens and Shear Madness

The Sarah P. Duke Gardens at Duke University in Durham North Carolina is a vast enchanting experience. I snapped a handful of plant and flower closeups which I plan to refer to in upcoming works of art. I recommend a nice long walk there, even a picnic!
Spending the labor day weekend in Charleston I saw "Shear Madness" their longest running show...and I can see why it was a hoot!

It was exciting to see the street next to my hotel closed and see this! At my first India Festival experience I listened to exotic voices and music while I watched lovely dancers and the crowd as my son called it doing "Indie slide dancing". I've enjoyed typical foods from India yet this was the perfect opportunity to try something new. After going up and down the street I selected a food tent where the young woman was friendly and eager to explain more of the ingredients, which I always check. I had a dish of puffed rice, (yes like breakfast cereal) As she prepared and asked what I liked I said easy on that cilantro and always yes to the tamarind sauce after having been to St.Kitts where I went up into the jungle on a tour where we picked it from the trees and tasted it in tea and some sweets they'd prepared. Based on my memory and trying to find the name from the menu I went back and grabbed it is a varied form of Bhel, a dish which everyone makes a little different. The puffed rice was warmed by the sauce, it was good, interesting enough to seek out and try again.
Thanks for joing me on my journey!

what does a chair, a nude, a snowflake and a dragonfly have in common?

They are all new art I created using acrylics and india ink and are listed for sale in my Etsy Shop.
These are fun pieces! I just can't seem to choose a favorite, how about you?
These are created on 8" x 8" canvases which you saw gessoed in a previous post, then I use a resist and layer paint, splatter, form images, use some india ink and repeat the process till I am content with the art image.
The top is titled "Feathers and Dragonfly" both which are in my studio, a dried dragonfly and peacock, and other feathers in vases. The nude with shoe and flowers is fittingly titled "Her Path". Ok simple and to the point "The Chair". What I did not notice till I posted it was how the back of the chair forms sort of a heart and is red behind it!
And the final piece is "Hot Snowflake" named after a friend's name on twitter who come to find out has a clothing line coming out called Hot Snowflake, I love it! Jenny also sells Organo Gold Coffee...what else would you expect from a Hot Snowflake! ;-)
