Continuum May 13, 2010 at The Steinway

Continuum

In Continuum, artist Robin Maria Pedrero presents works of art that infuse color and design to illustrate the timelessness of nature and love. Using opaque and transparent painted layers and selective ink drawn contours she shows how thoughts triggered by senses can take us on a visual journey connecting present perceptions, past experiences and future musings. A “Meet the Artist” wine/cheese/jazz reception will be May, 13, 2010 6 to 8 pm. Admission is free.

Blackbird and Berries New Spring Work

"Blackbird and Berries"
Acrylic and india ink 8x8" (original sold)
Today I placed bird feeders in my yard,
testing a new one that is made to keep squirrels

from devouring all of the food. I heard the crows

cawing as they roosted in the tops of a few trees.

Edgar Allen Poe. The Birds. Indian Totems.
Crows and blackbirds have a history of being the muse,
the legends, wise or mischievous,
they evoke a curiosity.

Ginger Tea complete

"Ginger Tea"

I like the loose transparent layers with dreamy images
filling the canvas. What no birds? No flowers?
Not this time. I like it as is.

Ginger in progress

WET  PAINT

I went for tea at my friend Lee's,
and Max and her dog Jack played together
(both black and white AND too funny we each were wearing black and white)
I was inspired to paint plants, fruits and foliage
as my friend and I walked about her property.
"Ginger Tea" is inspiration in progress.

Brushes

Some of my favorite brushes are my sumi-e Chinese bamboo brushes. Larger brushes for my larger canvases were on my supply list and I was quite fortunate while visiting Savannah Georgia to have found the most incredible Chinese brushes made of sheep, fox, wolf, and she wolf with handles of bamboo, and ceramic.
They are just magical!

Flat and Upright

I work on acrylics flat on tables and on my studio floor.
These are pieces after a few sessions of painting,
having dried I place them upright
to give myself a fresh perspective,
before I continue with more layers. I let the colors
simmer and suddenly in my minds eye
new life forms.

Your art kind of changes as you get older, by nature of the fact that you're hopefully gaining wisdom and you're starting to watch things with a better overview. Sheryl Crow

"Happiness" was the reoccurring thought that came to mind
in creating this piece, so it gained the title.
This is an 8 x 8" acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas.
This is the 4th piece in my Spring 2010 series.
This piece is $80.
