Detours and Right of Way

I often speak about detours, some end up as delightful adventures, while others just throw you off the path.(Those are the ones that are so frustrating) I am still feeling a bit detoured by recently being hit in a vehicular accident. I am seeking order.. to my schedule and my space like the piece above states...an inspiration from a few weeks ago when I enjoyed a visit to The Harn Museum, a place I hadn't been to in 9 years! It'd been way too long. I walked earnestly into the S.F.I. Exhibition Hall for the exhibit of 25 artists from Latin America, Africa and the USA. The history, culture and methods of communicating via choice of media struck me as I worked my way around the room. In particular in gaining my repeated attention was a piece that hung from a suspended grid making a new space via hanging geometic green plexi (I think) and photos and a gigantic wall quilt from metal bottle caps and liquor bottle metal. I made my way through the Asian Collection where I found much inspiration as I am influenced by Asian art in my own art and I use sumie brushes. Another body of work which was heart touching, Bea Nettles' Life Lessons :A Mother's Journal. A photographic journal where for me she captured not just moments but blocks of time or experiences. Then came a surprise, I almost skipped the next exhibit, America at Work:Art and Propaganda in the Early 20th Century. It didn't sound like anything I'd be interested in. I'd seen those Rosie posters and liked her but..? It was the easiest way to exit so I meandered through and THE POSTERS Commanded my attention. I was amazed at how relevant they are to us today, while back then the form of communication was the poster, now with life coaches, social network media tweets and facebook comments sharing similar sentiments in uplifting quotes or advice to make us all the wiser.

This last one reminds me of our efforts in America to go green
and create gardens locally and support our troops.

Museum of Seminole County History

The exhibit Where the Wild Things Are is June 15 - August 14, 2010. Here is a view into the private invitational opening held on June 23. The Museum director invited me to speak on the subject "Promoting yourself as an artist during challenging times"

My work "White Bird on Blue" is featured in the exhibit.

There were exceptional works of nature in photography, sculpture, and fine art.

Isn't this an interesting piece!

I'd been admiring this mammoth when I was able to meet the artist Bill Haight.

Getting Green

Moods and feelings effect the creation of art..they are part of art.
We artists are emotional sponges.
Saturday while driving my truck I was hit from behind, jarred and sore and with a damaged truck my evening studio time reflected I was feeling GREEN..in the blue sense of the word. I acted on it. I invested and recycled the feelings into several pieces which were in progress. I am careful not to incapacitate myself in fear of making changes or moving forward with a piece of art in progress. I trust my intuition and instincts, and move forward. Some refer to this fearless process as art coming out of failures. I see a positive learning experience which evolves into creative solutions and often success even if it doesn't initially seem so. I'll pause here, as I had to pause in question when I let this dry overnight, and will share how I continued with this piece in another post.

Half way point

With the midpoint of the calendar year approaching (July 2) and my June birthday being a time of renewal for me, I am assessing my 2010 goals that I posted in January. I feel I am doing well with fine tuning my artistic voice, maintaining present Galleries and Museum Gift Shops, marketing work online and in products, I have sold over 100 items in Etsy, building capitol by building sales, continuing my positive practices; blogging, social network medias, newsletters, postcards, mailing lists, attending exhibits, build the tribe and pay tribute to patrons, inspire, share, mentor and give ....

I need to focus on
Applying for Museum shows  (I have one this month! but I need to apply to more)
Expand to new territory in other states (exhibits, shows, art centers, galleries, museums)
Exhibit at more Galleries and venues in Florida (I recently applied)
Create and document 80 new pieces of work (for sale not counting studies)

15 - 16 x 20, 18 x 24 range (I have not made a lot in this range yet)

5 - LARGE 30 plus size (This is already done plus more...13 pieces!)

60 - small (Yes and I will continue to make more)

prepare EARLY for the Holidays and Promotions .. (doing ok so far)

Organize and back up data...  on going process

Visit more galleries and museums... I did a little of that locally and the Harn Museum in Gainesville, but I need to see more!

Prepare to make Dreams come true for NY/ big city events(not sure what IT is perhaps knowing will make a difference)

Make more art videos (I have not done well with this this year just a few shorts)

Once again I will ask... if I don't I'll never know...

... is there something on my list you think you could help me to achieve? I am seeking to broaden gallery representation across America. I want to have my work in NY, and major cities and galleries. I want to continue to make a difference in lives through my art. I would like my art and products in more shops. I want to travel and meet more of my fans and art collectors. I believe in my dreams...thank you for believing too!

Building layers in acrylic

Here is a portion of my present large commission work in progress.
The bottom photo depicts the use of cellophane and acrylic paint. After that dried and I removed the cellophane I painted in resist shapes and nature. The middle photo shows the resist layer. Here is a close up with some added flora and fauna. As I paint I build layers translucently and opaquely, I enjoy the diverse textures.

Newsletters and Communication

The piece on the left "Seeking Rays of Light" is awaiting a home hanging on my studio wall and "Listen to the Dew Drops" ships out today purchased as a Thank You gift. I am filled with gratitude to have my work selected as a token of appreciation, it gives me warm fuzzies! It expands my work into another means of communication and expressions of love and gratitude. Art is a visual language that speaks on so many levels.  I am reflecting on that concept repeatedly.

Did I mention I posted my June Newsletter?

I was honored to be the 100th sale in the wonderful shop of Sew Danish when I purchased the beautiful ACEO above. I purchased knowing I would be Birgitte's 100th sale in her etsy shop.We are friends in a group I adore called Unique Women in Business (UWIB). However I was really surprised when I read her tweet after I'd purchased this treasure of an ACEO, since she decided to bestow gifts upon the 100th buyer!  I enjoy the textures, colors and design elements she implemented in the ACEO. I am so pleased to have it in my art collection. I use the key chain everyday! I wore the brooch with my peacock feather shirt to a recent event where it gathered numerous compliments. She also included a handmade card and other goodies. Birgitte, a native Dane, makes exquisite pieces and works in numerous mediums. I encourage you to peruse her shop SEW DANISH http://www.etsy.com/shop/SewDanish for wonderful Scandinavian textile/fiber art and design pieces.

Art in My Collection

I am so excited to be the recipient of the artswap piece by Shoshanna Bauer "Where Light and Shadow Meet"! Several of us who participated in artswap shared our images on twitter, we did not know which we would receive. I told Shoshanna that I coveted this piece before she even sent it to me. I just loved it! She wrote the meaning on the back of the work and explained how it is about everyone having a dark and light side of their character and how it leads us in our life's path. She also included an original ATC (artist trading card), which is lovely. ..and I will be swapping with her by sending her one of mine. Her work is awesome! See for yourself http://shoshannabauer.com/

Fruited Branches with Birds

"Fruited BranchesWith Birds" by Robin Maria Pedrero

This 12" x 12" square gallery wrapped canvas is a color filled nature scene inspired by my Pinkberry Chair for Charity. I am offering this piece for sale to my fans and collectors as it is not yet scheduled to go to a gallery. I gave a peek at it earlier on facebook.
Sometimes I have a specific gallery or Museum shop that is receiving a piece or group of pieces. In central Florida my work is at Gallery 1792, Orlando Museum of Art Gift ShopMaitland Art Center and Wolfe Gallery in DeLand. New Englanders can find originals and reproductions of my work at Celebrations Gallery in Pomfret, Connecticut. I also have work at The Museum of Seminole County History in Sanford Florida for "Where the Wild Things Are" which opens June 15, 2010.
