Virginia is for Cow Lovers - Holsteins to be exact

The Virginia Holstein Association is delighted to host the
2011 National Holstein Convention
June 22-25th, in Richmond, Virginia.

"We invite all our Holstein friends to come and enjoy the best of Virginia: magnificent Holsteins, rich history, and southern hospitality."
I am one of the artisans of Cow Art and More,  "the place where "art and agriculture meet"... an art gallery of fine art and craft capturing the essences of agriculture and farm life." I am excited to share that my Fine Art Cow Handbags and Accessories will be available at the Holstein Convention at the Cow Art and More booth.

I love that the inside of the bags, the mini pouch key rings and the pouches all have black and white images.

My Pretties

The timing and process of creating a painting is different and unique for each creation. This piece "My Pretties" evolved over time. The last update I shared of this piece was back in February, "Poppy Makeover" . Just last week I finished the painting completely, in time to have its first debut in "Amalgamation". I am looking forward to greeting and speaking with our guests tomorrow evening at the opening reception at The Gallery at Avalon Island in downtown Orlando. All of us who installed the exhibition think our guests will be in for quite a treat!

Rhapsody revealed at Amalgamation

My most recent work "Rhapsody" has been completed to be revealed at Amalgamation!
This piece must be seen in person. I am very pleased with the whimsy here as white rabbits hop..yes see I told you - come see it in person ! We installed our Amalgamation exhibition all day yesterday. We have just a few details to finish up today. The Queen of Hearts Donna Dowless (the official Ambasador of Love in Orlando) said she was drawn to the gallery from the windows and just had to come in and see. She was raving about our show. We think you will too!

Headlines and Deadlines

I am excited to share Orlando Sentinel's Art Columnist Terry Hummel featured our exhibit "Amalgamation" in Night of Arts in Orlando, the May 13 issue. I am thrilled with the compliments he gave us, (Aurora and me).
I have watched both of these artists evolve and grow during the last decade, and I think you'll agree that their work has rightfully earned international recognition and awards. Terry Hummel

I have also been featured in an fab interview by Josh Garrick for the Wandering Educators Site.
"...amidst that love of nature, Robin Maria Pedrero is among the first rank of Artists using technology to send her work out into the world, finding clients for her paintings. Along with the Galleries that carry her work, Robin has a significant presence – and client base – on Facebook and on Twitter. Robin enjoys both the creativity – and the “business” of being an Artist in the 21st Century." Josh Garrick

I shared my most recent painting on my newsletter. I email peeps myself but people also subscribe to receive my newsletter once a month automatically via Feed Blitz, or Rss feed as I use a blog to host my newsletter.

I am busily putting together the tags, (art labels) and persevering to get them the same size. If you have any good tricks please share. As you can see I am still finishing up details for the exhibit. The deadline is Monday. I bought some foam board,  Kenneth Cole heels, and Dr. Scholls foot pads. I looked at an adorable bag that could hold my phone, but it wouldn't stay closed. I am pleased to to have confirmed John Menendez of iCrave  who will be gathering select cheeses, crackers and fruits for trays designed with the iCrave catering touch.

Pink Azaleas and Blue Bird

Azaleas bloom in spring, and their flowers are open for a few weeks. There are many azalea bushes outside of homes, businesses and in parks in Florida. The Azalea Society of America shares that azaleas are called "the royalty of the garden". There are more than 10,000 different azalea plants, both species and hybrids, yet I just call them by color; pink, purple, white....The Royal Wedding included azaleas, rhododendron, wisteria, and lilacs in their special day. Aboutflowers.com shares meanings of flowers and azaleas symbolize abundance. I painted the blue bird from instinct, yet I discovered there is a similar Royal Blue Starling. I am painting in a whimsical style, not intending for the work to be representational, or photo realistic, but to capture an essence of the feeling mixed with design elements. The accompanying flowers are not indigenous to a similar area, or season. I just paint both real and imagined ones that I feel like painting.  Why all of this info? These are some of the things I think about, and research, before and sometimes after painting, and influences the artwork title.  So after all of that, the title I came up with is
"Royal Blue Bird and Pink Satin Robes"
12" x 12" acrylic on canvas

This is a local Orlando Park that I enjoy to visit while the azaleas are in bloom.

Goodbye my little Chickadee

My little "Chickadee and Apple" is being prepared to ship to its new home.
I include a Certificate of Authenticity and my artist bio and statement with the original artwork. Here I have attached the certificate in a plastic envelope on top of the portfolio folder. In this case the artwork is an unframed pastel, so it will be shipped securely in this portfolio folder.
I hand cut and tape mat board together for shipping unframed pastels.
In the box I surround this with packing materials.
Once upon a time I made a cradle for the pastel art so that nothing would touch it because I did not always spray my work.Through the years companies change their recipes for products so I am always testing them. Last year I found a fixative I really like, Winsor and Newton. This sprayed piece will ship perfectly sandwiched in the mat board portfolio all the way from Florida to Michigan. I included a few notes about framing on the mat board itself so it is with the artwork. Pastels must be framed under glass. My preference is museum glass or non-reflective glass, never non glare glass, it disables the work from being seen correctly. I suggest a mat and the use of spacers between the art and the mat. Pastels are the purest pigment an artist can work with; they refract light and color like diamonds. I am honored to be an elected Signature Member of the Pastel Society of America.

My whole kitchen needs a makeover and I am hoping it can start with the faucet. I adore contemporary design! I like this Venuto in the top photo. What better piece of inspiration than to start with the most important ingredient in the kitchen, the sink!
