Road and Sky for Freedom Ride

Jeans and Jewels will be held Thursday, April 26, 2012. An expected 200+ guests will enjoy an evening of cocktails, sumptuous appetizers, contests, festivities and a fabulous silent auction. This pastel "Road and Sky" is the piece I selected to donate to
Freedom Ride . . . . Horsepower for the Spirit.

Established in 1998, Freedom Ride’s mission is to enrich the lives and experiences of children and adults with disabilities through the beauty of therapeutic horseback riding and related activities. At Freedom Ride the wheelchairs and walkers are left on the sidelines while riders move independently with the help of a gentle half-ton horse. Therapeutic horseback riding helps improve balance and coordination, develops motor skills, and builds muscle strength and flexibility.  Freedom Ride is a place that builds self-confidence…one smiling rider at a time. The funds raised at Jeans and Jewels are needed to directly support the operations of their therapeutic program.  Funding assures that many individuals with special needs here in Central Florida live a more fulfilled life.

I met Marianne Gray Executive Director of Freedom Ride sitting side by side at a breakfast during the Women's Convention here in Orlando Florida. I was already familiar with their services due to knowing of Freedom Riders via some of my students. I teach art to individuals with aspergers.
